Scholarship Requirements

  • Must be a descendant of one of the following:

    Lucy Mae (Starks) Harris, Dan Starks Jr., Andrew Starks Sr., Otelia (Starks) Brown, Nathaniel Starks, Ida Juanita (Starks) Cohen, Mary Starks, Martha Starks, Dorothy Starks, Ernest Starks, Ernestine (Starks) Ford, or Jessie Starks.

  • Written Essay

    An essay detailing your career goals. (Be thorough and complete)

  • Transcripts

    Official school transcripts required. Final High School Transcript, if applicable. Undergraduates must submit transcripts for previous semesters that have been completed. Graduates must submit undergraduate transcripts.

  • Test Scores

    Submit a copy of all standardized tests taken. This includes ACT, SAT, LSAT, GRE, MCAT, LSAT, and GED. Scores must be visible on documentation.

  • Admissions Letter

    Submit a copy of the Admission Letter from the accredited college/university, skilled trade school, or degree program within the United States.

  • Other Funding Sources

    If you have received funding from other sources, please upload copies of all other sources. This includes campus based aid. If you have studied and lived in Detroit throughout high school, you may be eligible for a debt-free education through the Detroit Promise Scholarship.   • Proof of Military Service (if applicable)

    A DD214, Certificate of Release, or Discharge from Active Duty.
